Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. To the female population’s dismay, he’s unapologetically single. When Bell’s mother walked out on them years ago, he vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again.
Amelia Van Ecken isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn. Two things are obvious in an instant: they want each other, and they’re from different worlds. It’s the perfect formula for an off-the-charts one-night stand. After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract.
The First Taste, a standalone spin-off of the Slip of the Tongue.
REVIEW: 5 STARS!!!
"But I'm horny and she's hot, so I'm up for a little game of cat and mouse."
You guys!!!!! AAAACK!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Ok? I love Andrew. He is mine, so just accept it. Move along...<swoon>. This says a lot, seeing how I am absolutely in love with David Dylan from her Cityscape Series. He's my book husband and all.
I. Loved. This. Book.
That's what I feel like saying, because, c'mon....who doesn't like a bad boy that rides a bike, works in an auto shop and is rough around the edges, except he has a soft side that makes you swoon!? He's ALL man and you can really tell that Jessica Hawkins had a great time telling his story. He was smooth, yet unrefined.....but city smarts mixed with his heart's curiosity? This made for a story worth reading!! Andrew is officially a favorite book boyfriend now. He is worth everything. I picked up this book and never put it down. I was enamored from the get go.
Snarky, a tad OCD and gorgeous; Amelia was the kind of girl Andrew figured he could sink himself into for one night and just walk away. He certainly wasn't going to pass up someone so hot, and she presented herself as a witty challenge with an attitude! Their meeting was a great first impression, complete with laughs and all! I had the goofiest grin on my face every time he offered something, and she wanted to do it, but didn't want to get caught up in him. I think she was afraid to give in the temptation, because she knew what would happen. I think Amelia tried to excuse his sincerity, and I don't think she completely understood what a caring person he really was. I think she underestimated Andrew's ability to be so passionate and caring, given his exterior appearances. Honestly, I may have underestimated him as well. His heart is huge and giving. He was THE perfect book boyfriend EVER. She was always full of excuses, but they never held up. Rightfully so.
The banter between Amelia and Andrew was perfect. It wasn't just funny banter; it was also lighthearted banter interwoven with serious banter. I love banter in all forms! HA! They playfully tested boundaries while flirting with control and passion, all the while mixing in some über steamy times!! The fact that they both fought something so undeniable, something so obvious beyond doubt, made me smile. I seriously swooned during this whole book. He unnerved Amelia so much, but she tested Andrew at every chance she got. You will find yourself smiling and giggling throughout their love story. It was truly reminiscent of finding that one love that sets your heart afloat and makes you feel like you're on cloud nine. I loved their relationship. It wasn't without it's challenges, because there were plenty, but I really enjoyed the way it worked itself out.
Jessica Hawkins did an amazing job weaving this story together to show Andrew and Amelia, polar opposites in every sense of the word, falling in love. A real love. A strong love. From start to finish, these two did not meet the typical boyfriend/girlfriend façade -- and that is no understatement, but they worked SO well together. I love JH's words. I love her stories. I love the angst. And I love the emotion she puts behind her words. This book is easily Jessica's best work yet, and it was a treat to read it! *SWOON*
