MY Favorite Books for 2015

I haven't been on my own blog for very long, but I have, in fact, been blogging for a few years.  I have enjoyed the relationships I have made and the friendships with authors that have turned into good friendships.  What a year 2015 was, but I can't wait to see what 2016 brings!!!

Here is a list of some of my favorite books that stand out to me. I read 88 books this year (not counting any DNF's), which is considerably less than I did last year, but the vacations this year with the family were a lot longer. I will take that....haha!! Some of these books were written in a different year, but I read them this year, so they are on the list this year.

Tell me....do we have similar likes:

Favorite Couple:
The Wake Series by M Mabie.

Casey and Blake had a ROUGH ride, but their relationship was very passionate. I loved how hard they fought, even though they didn't have a conventional "start". This started my love affair with M Mabie.

Favorite Triangle:
Break Even by Lisa De Jong

This couple was put through the wringer and had quite a bit of angst thrown at them. I enjoyed the twist that was thrown at me while reading this and couldn't put it down. I have read a few of Lisa's books and loved them, but this book pushed her into favorites territory!

Favorite YA:
Innocents by Mary Elizabeth

I do NOT like YA.....it's just too young for me. I have run into a few that just left me wanting more. Well, Innocents came highly recommended to me by a favorite author, so I took her word for it. I have fallen in love with Mary's writing and her passion that you can feel through it. You can feel the emotion...you are just put back in that time.

Favorite Dark:
Bang by Ek Blair

This was my first ever dark book and it was a RIDE!! It was pretty intense for me and I loved Echo as well. I am excited to see what Hush brings us and I imagine it will be crazy insane to read. This book gripped me and I couldn't have pulled away. It was amazing!!!

Favorite Cry....ok, the ONLY cry I've ever had:
Emi: Lost and Found by Lori Otto

I have NEVER cried during a book and this book killed me. It was so beautifully written, but so heart-wrenching to read. I absolutely loved the love....and the growth in this book. Brilliantly written.

Favorite Taboo/Hottest Read:
Priest by Sierra Simone

HOLY COW!!!! I can't say enough about this book....it was SO hot and SO taboo and SO forbidden. I love forbidden, so this book was all of that!!! I have recommended this book to so many people. I still shake my head...this book brought back the excitement of reading sexy reads. I love a good sexy read, but this one made me excited to read erotica again. A story mixed with amazingly hot sex scenes. So good.

Favorite Second Chance Romance:
Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino

This book was such a great book for me. The second chance aspect and finding
out the twist was a gasp-able moment!! I loved this book and I really enjoyed it. I even found my first tattoo from it...I will be getting a quote from here. Not sure when....but I will!

Favorite Sport Romance:
Ryker by Sawyer Bennett
Each book in this series made me fall in love with a new hockey player.....Zack was my favorite because of the taboo nature, but then I met Ryker. The relationship he had was taboo, but in a different way and the way it played out was awesome. I love Sawyer Bennett's books, but this one sticks out for me.

Favorite Inspirational Book:
The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

This hit home for me on many levels and brought to light a part of my personal life that I had no intention of ever sharing. This was an emotional book that was truly settling. I loved this book, and having Aly on my list TWICE this year says a lot. Her writing gets better and better the more I read it. I seem to be able to connect emotional with her books each time I read them.

Perfectly Imperfect by Harper Sloan

Yes, I have two favorites under this category because of the message each one sent. I believe that we all have a little bit of Willow in us, and this book showed me that someone understands the voices in all our heads....and put it into a book. It was a read that I really enjoyed.

Favorite Serial:
Night Fever by Jessica Hawkins

Jessica Hawkins is one of my favorite authors and she has never let me down. Her angst is off the charts good and she always makes me squirm. This series was an interesting one for me to read and I really enjoyed the push and pull on the morality scale. The boundaries that are tested and the questions you find yourself asking are so real. I got sucked into this serial BAD.

Favorite Male POV:
Legal Affairs by Sawyer Bennett (Clash/Grind/Yield)

So hot. So good. So masculine. Last years Favorite Male POV was also written by Sawyer Bennett and it was Confessions of a Litigation God. This book was no different....engaging, sexy and excellently written. I totally felt that it was really reading from a guy's point of view. It wasn't soft at all. Sometimes you can really tell.....but this was written soooo well.

Favorite Fighter Romance:
This was my second book I read by Aly and I think her books get better and better as they go. After reading the first two books in this series, I bought her entire Wrecked and Ruined series with the intention of reading it. I will get to it!! #Time

Tell me....what do you think? Have you read any of these? Do you have any of these on your TBR? Thanks for checking out my favorites list!!

RYKER by Harper Bentley is LIVE!!

RYKER (The Powers That Be #4)
by HARPER BENTLEY

Ryker Powers was the biggest prick I’d ever met.

He was also my biggest mistake.

He’d taken what he wanted then left, and I detested him for it. Not that the jerk had cared to stickaround long enough to know how I felt.

Everyone thought he was a perfect gentleman with all his quiet intensity but I knew better.

I knew he had a filthy mouth. That he liked things dirty.

He may have had people fooled into thinking he was a nice guy but I knew exactly who he was.

He was a bad boy who’d ask for a light from the devil himself.

And I wanted to see him burn.

Until I realized—to my utter horror—that what I really wanted was him.

Who was going to get burned now?

Book Review for Dirty Ugly Toy by K Webster and an EXCLUSIVE Giveaway

DIRTY UGLY TOY

Her time is over.
Things are looking up.

She’s dirty and ugly.
He’s wicked but handsome.

Six months to toy with her.
Six months of vacation and a ton of money.

I’ll hurt her beyond repair.
I’ve been through much worse.

She's difficult to control and doesn't obey.
I'm done submitting to anyone or anything in this life.

I should hate her.
I should hate him.

The game has changed.
I will win.

Dirty Ugly Toy is a novel that blurs the lines of right and wrong, deals with abuse, contains dubious consent, and adult subject matter. If you are sensitive to violent sexual situations, the book may not be suitable for you. Some parts of this book are not easy to read and are not intended for everyone. However, those that keep an open mind and stick with it will not be disappointed.

REVIEW: 4-4.5 Stars

WHOAH!!! What a ride....I don't even know where to begin. I seriously can't think straight after reading this book. I've been thinking about it for a few days, and I still can't stop. It was the first book I've read that involved this heavy of a subject matter, but I. Couldn't. Stop. Reading. It. It was so intense and mortifying, all in one. But I will tell you this much; the emotions were insane.

It's crazy to try to explain it. I cringed a few times, I'll be honest. I even thought I needed to stop reading because it was mind-boggling intense, but then some blip of redemption would come along from HIM and it would make me continue, but then I'd cringe all over again. But as the story went along, the cringing stopped and the swooning started. I had questions and then something would be answered....and then I would have another question not being answered, but then it all made sense in the end. I know, that doesn't make any sense, but now you see where I was while reading it. His actions and some of his decisions had me asking WHY, but then when we would get glimpses into who he was, and why he was the way he was, it clued me into some things. I was confused half the time and enamored the rest. I felt like I had the rug pulled out from underneath me. Seriously, the emotion attached to this story was CRAZY. So many ups and downs, but I was sucked in!! HE was an anomaly....and an enigma. I was disgusted at how he acted towards her, but I was entranced by who he was around her. It was so odd to feel so strongly on either side of the scale. I guess this was the perfect example of a love/hate relationship. My gosh....I did end up falling completely in love with him, though. Completely.

I needed to know what the full story was...I needed to find out what was going on. I am SO glad I read this. I cannot tell you how amazing it felt to see it all play out. It was such a relief too. And the epilogue was the neatest epilogue I have read in a LONG time. I loved that little twist!!!

Final thoughts: Read this book. Really....be confused with me, and then fall in love like I did. But I want to hear your thoughts on it. I will easily recommend this DARK book to many people.

I am still shaking my head....

Monster Screw by Kendall Ryan!!!

First there was SCREWED.

Then there was MONSTER PRICK.

Now…

… There’s MONSTER SCREW!!!!

This brand new boxed set features both New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal mega-bestselling sexy, FUNNY, HOT romances for one low price. Just $2.99 on release day, and $5.99 after.

So, are you ready for your MONSTER SCREW??

About Screwed:

I’m young, fit, attractive, and loaded. Not to mention I’m packing a sizable bulge below the belt. It’s a combination that drops panties on a regular basis.

Yay, me, right?

But my cock, troublemaker that he is, has been confined to my trousers by my business partner. A concession I agreed to, and one that’s never been hard to enforce until Emery moves in across the hall.

She’s smart, young, determined, and sexy as hell. I want a taste. I won’t stop until I’m buried deep inside the succulent new-in-town brunette.

After being warned about my past, she does her best to steer clear, but I’m about to show her that underneath it all, I’m a guy with a heart of gold and a cock of steel.

My name is Hayden Oliver, and this is my story.

About Monster Prick:

Over my dead body.

That's what I told Gracie when she informed me of her plan to pick some random guy she met online to get rid of her pesky virginity.

If anyone is touching her, it's going to be me.

I shouldn't even be considering it, but I can't get it out of my head: her, under me, begging me.

***

Arrogant. Cocky. Prick.

Those are the words I'd use to describe my older brother's dangerously handsome best friend.

When he learned of my plan to kick off my white cotton briefs, ditching my good girl persona once and for all by losing my virginity to the first eligible bachelor I could find, he flipped out. Said over his dead body.

He says if anyone's going to do it, it's going to be him.

I hate that I'm even considering his offer.

But I am ... I sooo am.

Ever since he suggested it, all I can think about is his cocky smile on those full lips as he's driving in to me.
But if we cross that line ... will I ever be able to go back?

MONSTER PRICK, a sexy romantic comedy, is a spin off novella from SCREWED, but can be read as a standalone, as it features a new couple.

*EXCERPT REVEAL* Slave to Love by Julie Richman

Excerpt
Slave to Love
© 2015 Julie A. Richman

Parking the Lotus, I quickly head to her side to help her out. She gives me a look and I laugh, “I’m only trying to be a gentleman.” I feign innocence.

“Mmmhmm.” Even her mmmhmm is dripping sarcasm.

Not commando. White lace. Oh God, she’s destroying me. I want to rip them off and lower her onto my lap. Impale her and discover what kissing does to her with my cock inside her.

Damn it. Will I be able to keep the promises I want to make?

Our waiter comes by and I order two Manhattans, smiling at Sierra.

“Craving cherries?” Her eyebrows are raised.

Oh man, she really is going to kill me tonight.

“Only if they are yours.”

“You want mine?” she asks and I can see she feels it. She feels our energy.

“More than you can imagine.”

“I would hate to deny you.”

“Good girl. Then don’t.”

The waiter places the Martini glasses in front of us and I lift mine, “Good to see you again.” And I hope she can see how sincere I am.

“Good to see you.” She takes a sip and her nose scrunches up. “This tastes different.”

“They make theirs with rye whiskey instead of bourbon.”

Another two sips and the cherry is no longer submerged. Sierra reaches into the glass and plucks it out. About ready to pop it into her mouth, she catches my eye and smiles. She’s just messing with me. Reaching out, I grasp her slender wrist and slowly pull it to me. Taking the tips of her thumb and forefinger into my mouth, I suck the cherry out from between her fingers and show it to her on my tongue before slowly chewing it, a smile firmly planted on my face.

I’m still holding her wrist and with my free hand, I signal to the waiter for two more.

“We need to talk, Hale.”

I can see she is struggling. We are in such dangerous territory and we escalate there quickly and too easily. She is clearly unnerved and I’m not sure if it’s by her own behavior, mine or what happens when we’re together. Her eyes search mine as if she is hoping to find some truth. I loosen my hold on her wrist and pick up my drink.

“Let me start by first saying something I have yet to say to you. I’m sorry, Sierra.

I’m sorry I disrespected you.”

SLAVE TO LOVE

There are risks to mixing business with pleasure...

IF A MAN HAS AN AFFAIR AT WORK, HE'S A STUD.

He was a royal prick.
The night we met, he ignored me.
Then Mr. Big Shot CEO grabbed my ass in a business meeting.
My boss just loaned me out to this guy.
Now, we’re working on a major project together.
And our chemistry is dangerous.
Combustible.
If I allow it to ignite, I’ll risk losing that promotion.
Worse, what if I lose myself in him?

IF A WOMAN HAS AN AFFAIR AT WORK, SHE'S A SLUT.

From the moment I saw her I knew she was trouble.
It was the combination of her fresh face, smart mouth and nipples that seemed to know my name.
This woman could satisfy my needs both in the boardroom and the bedroom.
But there was more to it than that.
I wanted her.
Really wanted her.
And I was in the position to change the course of her life.
But I’ve got secrets, secrets that could destroy her.
And either make her mine or drive her away forever.

“Secrets”

Melissa

In the cool darkness of the semi-crowded bar, I study the glass in front of me and consider my journey, how many steps I’ve taken in the last two years, how far I’ve come. Memories of my old life fade like smoke in a glass. The shame that held me so tightly now dances at the edges of my mind like the whisper of a bad dream, a flicker of shadows that no longer make sense in my world.

Young women in shiny slip-dresses twist and laugh on the dance floor, but instead of resentment, my lips curl into a smile. My old self—cynical, bitter, defeated—is a memory I have to work hard to recall. These days I could dance all night with them, but I’d rather spend my energy on other things.

The slim glass holds a pale amber liquid, and I can’t resist taking a sip. An involuntary wince pinches my eyes as I put it down. Seven and seven. Refreshing citrus dragged down by the heavy undertone of whiskey. So gross.

Sliding my palms over my thighs, I realize my outfit isn’t much different from the girls’ on the dance floor. The deep red silk is fitted at my waist, and drapes loosely over my torso. My long, dark hair is swept over one shoulder revealing a thin spaghetti strap. I lightly touch the delicate gold chain around my neck leading to the floating heart pendant that sits between my collarbones, and light glances off the thick gold cuff on my wrist.

Unlike that night almost two years ago, I’m alone. My best friend Elaine is miles away with her new husband, most likely indulging in that blissful honeymoon period of early marriage. Make that, most certainly indulging. I know those two well.

No, I came by myself to this bar in Princeton after finishing my business with a client in town. My infant son is in Wilmington, spending the weekend with his grandmother. Studying my hands, I admire the deep blue sapphire ring on my finger, but I have no wedding band.

At thirty two, I’m an unmarried mother of a beautiful little boy, and I wouldn’t change a thing... Yet. The tiny silver scar at my hairline reminds me of what a bad marriage looks like, and with my successful marketing business and the gorgeous cottage at the beach I own, I’m satisfied with my life. Calm, not desperate. I’ll take my next steps deliberately, with certainty.

All these thoughts preoccupy my mind when I blink up and catch him watching me from across the square shaped bar. Blue eyes, strikingly blue because of the way they stand out beneath his dark brow, coupled with collar length thick dark hair.

He’s massive, at least six two, and elegantly dressed with a thick stainless watch on his wrist. I can spot his type a mile away—rich, powerful, accustomed to getting what he wants. I can’t deny the hum his gaze sets off under my skin. I know what he wants.

Catching my lip in my teeth to stop my grin, I know what I want, too, and it’s no coincidence I happened to look up at that exact moment to meet his stare. Still, I’ll make him work for it.

He starts to move, his eyes never leaving mine. I don’t look away either. Thick cords of muscle ripple beneath the thin black sweater he wears as he glides past the oblivious patrons talking and laughing. Some are more animated than others, waving their arms and putting their drinks in peril.

Yellow lights hidden in the recesses above the bar illuminate rows of liquor bottles in all colors and shapes. Glasses hanging upside down above also catch the flickering light. It’s a raucous atmosphere, but this man and I are in our own secret place of longing and desire.

As he rounds the final corner, and I see him in full, my breath quickens. My eyes drift from his broad shoulders to his narrow waist, grey slacks and black shoes, then back up just as he reaches me. A close beard shadows his face, and the muscles low in my pelvis tighten at the thought of how it feels brushing the soft skin of my inner thighs.

Book Review: Break Even by Lisa DeJong

BREAK EVEN

My story isn’t a love story … not the typical kind anyway.

As a lawyer, I’m used to discovery, but I never saw this one coming.

Every day, River gives me ten reasons to stay away, and then eleven reasons why I can't. Our relationship was to remain strictly business, or at least I tried.

Four years of marriage, and everything with Cole has changed. I never knew two people who lived together could be so distant. But I’m not ready to give up on him.

One man wants to break me.

The other is just trying to get even.

Both are lying to me.

REVIEW: 5 TWISTY STARS

"Sometimes I wonder if things are really as bad as they seem, or if my idea of happy is just too much for him to give. Is my perception different than reality?"

First and foremost....I have to say WOW. I have read two other books of LDJ's, and I really enjoyed them, but this book solidified it. Easily now, she ranks up there as a must one click/must buy author. I really enjoyed this book. I spent days thinking about it....and I still get excited when I see new teasers for it. It's been a long time since a book has made me feel the emotions like this one did, and I have since recommended it repeatedly.

Ok, so when I say I love LOVE TRIANGLES, I really REALLY mean it. They are one of my favorite reads because the emotions are raw and real. There are so many varying factors to what causes things to happen, and I love to see how they play out. But this one.....was a triangle with a TWIST. So freaking good.

River and Marley had chemistry. REAL, emotionally charged chemistry. Marley was a very strong heroine and she had great character to her. I liked her a lot. But River.....oh River. He was the drug you couldn't give up. He was so addicting and so alluring and he made you just crave him. He was a smooth talker. He put Marley into some pretty.....interesting situations. I would have been slightly uncomfortable, but I still smiled. Still craved him. Still wanted more. And Marley? She handled it with class....but her emotions got the best of her. But, c'mon.....River? <sigh> Need I say more? I loved him.

Watching the lines blur right before her very eyes was intense as she tried to navigate between right and wrong, between her head and her heart. Seeing it play out through her point of view was rough....I knew mentally she wanted it to stop, but I don't think she had the power to stop it emotionally. I loved the war inside her head and heart....I really did.

I cannot recommend this book enough.....and I will be gifting a copy on my FB post for it. Please make sure to follow along and enter to win. It was intense.....and angsty, but not crazy angsty. It was enough that I was giggling like a fool while reading it, and sighed at the end. It really was perfection in a book. It has also landed on my Favorites List for 2015. I loved it.

◆ EXCERPT

“Do you shower yourself in arrogance every morning, Mr. Holtz? You may want to use a little less next time.” My toes curl in the water, but I hold my voice steady.

He grips my hips, sliding my body close to his. If his cock is any indication, he’s just as turned on by this back and forth as I am. “Just admit you like it. You like having someone take care of your every need. You like having all my attention, and you definitely like my cock.”

“River,” I breathe as he kisses a line from my jawline to my shoulder.

“Admit it. You like me,” he says, his lips moving against my skin.

My fingers curl against his back. “Make me,” I taunt, enjoying the way he teases.

He groans, his lips pulling away from me. He stares, his eyes only inches from mine. He’s baiting the truth, but something tells me he already knows. And, I can’t stand that he’s not touching me, not when his words still play over and over in my head. I want to know what he’s capable of; it’s hard to believe I haven’t already seen and felt the best of him.

He cocks his head to the side, and I can’t take it. “I kind of like you. Now, kiss me.” As I hear my own words, I realize they’re true. I kind of like River Holtz, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about that.

“Kind of?” he asks, lifting his brow.

Damn him. If someone would have told me eleven days ago when River walked in my office that I’d be telling this man I like him let alone naked in his tub, I would have called them crazy.

“I like you,” I blurt before pressing my lips to his. I’m completely consumed. Addicted.
