Book Review: Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen

BITTERSWEET

The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.

At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.

Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.

They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.

REVIEW: 4.5 SEXY STARS
"You're the sweet that balances out my natural tannins."

Sarina Bowen is quickly and easily becoming a go-to author for me. This was my first read of her by herself. I read Him and Us and loooved them. But, I can honestly report that I read this book with a stupid giddy grin on my face the whole time. I needed this type of read! Seriously, the time that it released was the most perfect time for me to sit down and drown out the issues going on around my little world. Being able to sink into this book and soak up the love of Audrey and Griffin was perfect. It was a good balance of curiosity, questioning and sweet.

I loved Audrey's excitement and her naïveté, but her smarts and her innocence balanced her out. Her character was perfectly written. She was funny, outgoing, honest and knowledgeable. She was easily relatable, which is one of my 'needs' in a book. I loved her excitedness. She really was infectious.

Griff had a 'Griffrown' and was grumpy, but surely there was a soft spot in him to be found...right? Overall, he was sexy and honorable. He had a good head on his shoulders and he was a thorough man....not much got by him and I feel that he had good instincts. I enjoyed HIM a lot.

However, knowing that they were both smart with good heads on their shoulders, I loved the questions they both had and how to progress through with their feelings in regards to their 'relationship'. The route they took to follow their feelings showed the insecurities they both had, as well as the struggle they both had to make sure they were making the right decisions. The way Griffin made sure that their dreams were followed melted my heart. He was such a gentleman and he was all things strong and relatively silent, but his heart was pulling for more.

I can't recommend this one enough....if you want a man that knows what he wants, but also knows what she wants and sets aside his own needs to make sure his woman is taken care of, then this is your book. Griffin is all things sexy. This dual POV book is such a great read, you can't go wrong. This was a perfect beginning to what is going to become an amazing series. Great set up of all the characters, even though we focused on Griff and Audrey.

"I had the loopy, impractical idea that we might just belong together for keeps."
