Book Tour Review for Hawke by Sawyer Bennett

HAWKE

The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

REVIEW: 4.5 STARS
"We were more than lovers. We were the best of friends, two peas in a pod, Frick and Frack."

Hawke was a HIGHLY anticipated book for me. I seriously could NOT wait for this book....and a lot of the reasoning is because we had NO idea who he was! So, needless to say, I was excited. Hawke is a second chance romance told with heartbreaking accuracy about what emotions can do to you, and how it can destroy a relationship, ultimately leading up to the realization of the one that got away. Oh my gosh. Pain while reading Vale and Hawke's story? Yes. I wanted to hug Vale for her innocence, but I wanted to hold Hawke for missing out on something so undeniably heartbreaking. However, as innocent as Vale was, she was very strong too. I think Sawyer nailed this one quite well by making us go through the heartache and the pain through both eyes, and at different times in the story. I think my favorite part was the realization of the loss of your one true love, and the fight to make it right. That was agonizing, but worthy. We all know that a hot guy can make us weak in the knees, and the fact that Vale knows this but still follows her heart and her instincts make me happy!! This was the first book that I have ever connected more with the female character over the male. Because, let's face it, I fall in love with the H more often than not. And Hawke is HOT and sexy, and has a dirty side to him that makes you squirm.

Reality. Ok. Moving on.

I loved the way the characters were portrayed in this one. They weren't the immature young kids that think they love each other, and yet they weren't the older, more mature adults that had every duck in a row either. This was real life question and decision making time, in the spur of the moment, that lovers in their 20's do. Some level of maturity, still subjected to rash decisions. I really liked seeing that and remembering my own crazy times. I liked going through their ups and downs. I liked the breath of relief I took with them when things were realized. I was sad for them when they couldn't get through their misunderstandings, through no fault of their own. I really enjoyed this read and the emotions I waded through.

It's not very often that you find an author that can write a story and you can connect with the characters and the storyline each and every single time. Sawyer Bennett is that author for me. I love knowing that by picking up her books, I am going to get a complete story from start to finish, with all the emotions, told with empathy and sincerity. I can always connect and I love being able to put myself in different shoes.

Confession: I hate starting one of her books.....because I know it's going to end eventually. Her Cold Fury Hockey books are my second favorite series of hers now. Who am I kidding? I love all her books. <sigh>

This was a good read with good pacing and great characters. I love her hockey boys!

"You have to know.....you have to admit, that was my love for you. Think about it. Search deep. Tell me you know it."
