Book Review for Lucas by Jay McLean

by JAY MCLEAN

In a sprint, every millisecond counts.
When you’re waiting for love, those milliseconds can feel like eons.

High school senior Lucas Preston has it all: star of the track team, a scholarship waiting for him, an apartment to himself and a revolving door of girlfriends. He also has an older sister, five younger brothers and a father who relies on him to make sure those brothers don’t kill each other.
His saving grace? Lois “Laney” Sanders, a girl he started to fall in like with when he was just eleven.
A girl who became his best friend, his confidant, his courage.

It took only sixteen clicks and eight seconds for Lucas to realize that his like for Laney had turned into love.
Eight life-changing seconds.
It’s also the exact length of time it took to lose her.

REVIEW: 5 STARS
"....her touch is like oil, and my pain is the water. She creates a divide when I could be drowning."

For a FIRST book by a new to me author, I am seriously in love! I will have to read ALL the book now...ALL of them. This was a perfect example of an author changing my mind on the types of books/genres I will read. I am not a YA reader, and have generally refused to read it, but this book definitely made me smile and want more. Even though this was classified as NA, I am not sure I would classify it as that either. It was on a flirty line with YA vs NA. Either way, I loved it and canNOT wait for more!!

This book introduced us to a whole clan of Prestons and I genuinely feel like part of the family now. I feel like I have grown up with them, learned their personalities and am emotionally invested in them and their futures. I will emphatically tell you that you need to start this book because the groundwork was laid for an amazing series with this one....and the writing was exceptional, so I know I have some amazing stories to look forward to. I felt the newness of a first love, the giddiness of first meetings, and the excitement of wanting to see them more. I also felt the heartbreak when things didn't work out as planned, making them realize that life is actually happening and they need to learn to live life. I loved the outlook this story gave me, and I loved experiencing a first love all over again through innocent eyes. Blissfully enjoyed it.

I am seriously in love. I loved Jay's flow, her pace, her innocence and the characters. All of it. It touched on a serious issue, but also glossed over others. But, most importantly, it showed a lot of love within a family that faced serious circumstances and it showed the strength in a loving and hardworking family. OMG. Perfection...I loved this. No angst, even though I got a few anxiety pangs for Lucas...but I think those were excitement for the 'what ifs' we were facing.

I feel.....happy. I feel calm and just plain sigh-worthy happy. I never questioned anything, I never rolled my eyes, I never felt like something was stupid. I just read it and immersed myself in this busy world and got lost in it. I loved that about this book. I can't wait to read more about this Preston bunch, and this will be a series I will follow to the end. I loved the way Jay set us up for more with the brothers. Perfection. I want more...now, yesterday....immediately. So good. This book is worthy of every single five star review.

Thank you to Amy at Garden of REden for suggesting and recommending Lucas and Jay McLean to me. Thank you!

Always learning.
