Book Review and Giveaway for Violent Ends by Jessica Hawkins

VIOLENT ENDS
by JESSICA HAWKINS

I had a life, love, and future to give.
Until my enemy took a wife.

The devil has a name, and it’s Cristiano de la Rosa. On my wedding day, he was the last man I expected to see standing at the altar. He wants to make me his queen. His brother wants to rescue his princess.

Getting Cristiano to lose control becomes the name of the game, and the stakes are life and death. But as truth and lies blur, loyalty is tested, and our chemistry threatens to reach the melting point, the prize grows less clear. Either freedom no longer means what I think it does, or Cristiano is as devious as everyone says, and he’s mastered the art of playing my mind.

All I know for certain is that nothing is certain. And all you need to know? This is a love story.

But even love stories have to end.

REVIEW: 4.5 STARS
"Don't deny me, Natalia. You want this. I need it."

I love it when a book makes me gasp at the end!!! OMGosh, if this one didn't perfectly set up the ultimate cliffhanger for the third book, Violent Triumphs, I don't know what could have. This book was Jessica Hawkins in her element. With intrigue and forbidden, mixed with an intense hero and a heroine you want to shake, this whole setup is everything I crave from her. I read this book with fervor and fascination. I loved the first book, but this one was so much more for me in terms of the growth of their characters and the sizzling intensity between Cristiano and Natalia. But not only that, Natalia's understanding of Diego's devious and destructive side - and I won't lie and say that I was heartbroken about it. I hate Diego with the power of a thousand suns, so to see her understanding his asshole-ish ways, I was happy. HAHAHA!

I think one of the sexiest parts of this book is Cristiano's mouth.....woah. I mean, seriously WOAH. I loved how dominant he was, but there was a certain tenderness to his demeanor as well. He’s naughty but so protective. He’s brutal but so tender. He is perfection, in all realities. His patience is tested repeatedly, yet he doesn't lose his cool and to me, that is something that I cannot get over. Like, it makes him amazing to me in every aspect. I am pretty sure I would have wanted to strangle Natalia a few times....yet, he has the patience of a saint (he is NO saint, for the record). Now, having said that - I honestly think that speaks to his strength and his confidence, and nothing is sexier than a confident man. Nothing.

"What the idle mind conceives is far worse than what I can do."

I did struggle with Natalia more in this book than I did the first one. Not so much that my rating would change - because it's obviously who she is, but it definitely left me wanting to shake her pretty damn hard. What was right in front of her face was sidestepped by her inability to see the whole story. It was - Right. In front. Of her damn. Face. Normally that would make me rant, but I had to take into consideration her age. I also needed to see it from her side, and Jessica did a good job at setting up her stubbornness and my anger issues. I won't pretend to say I love her, because I don't, but I am in love with her stubborn side. I love a good stubborn woman and the man that breaks her with his love and devotion, and that's what I am here for. Cristiano is devoted to her and that side of him is so damn sexy. Ugh!! I want more of him!

Favorite Character: Cristiano was articulate and very determined, but with that came a very calculated test of wits. As frustrating as it was, the talking in circles made me smile because it was a well choreographed dance between two people that were equally strong willed but they were both intrigued by the other. In different ways, yet all the same. This book excited me for more to come.

This is going to be a long five months, I won't lie. That cliffhanger set my heart back a few years. I know that I have my own assumptions about what is happening and who is behind it all, but the wait will be a test of my will and patience. I am anxious to get Cristiano's side of this and Diego's comeuppance, but also Natalia's awakening. There is so much I am holding out hope for, but knowing this one did everything I needed it to makes me settle in for the wait with a little more confidence. One thing that I wish I could stress to many readers would be that even though there is a wait with Jessica's books, her stories are well-plotted and exceptionally well-written, and with the depth she gives them, there is no way I can forget any part of the storyline. I love that about her series. I have always been able to jump back in with eagerness and have never had to "remember" things or re-read the last few pages of the book before starting the next. Her writing is amazing to me, and this book just reminded me why she is a favorite author of mine.

I am excited to see where this goes. I need to know how this all.....'gets fixed' in the final book. I need to know.

"Revenge and closure. Those two things could tempt the devil."
