Book Review and Giveaway for Jilted by Sawyer Bennett

JILTED
by SAWYER BENNETT

Eden Goodnight went to Los Angeles to make it big, not to be publicly humiliated by her cheating fiancé at a red-carpet premiere. But when Eden returns to her hometown to put the scandal behind her, she can barely find a sympathetic shoulder to cry on. Turns out the locals are worse than the paparazzi, and they all think she’s turned into a spoiled brat. But in a strange twist of fate, the one person who seems to understand what Eden’s going through is Cooper Mayfield . . . the boy she left behind.

Small-town charm is no match for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. At least that’s what Coop’s been telling himself all these years. As Eden’s old flame—and the landscaper for her family’s historic home—Coop feels some responsibility for getting her out of her funk. But as soon as he sees that million-dollar smile, he’s a goner. Soon they’re making out like teenagers again. But when a life-changing role falls into Eden’s lap, Coop just hopes she doesn’t give up on a love that’s meant to be.

REVIEW: 4 Stars
"I have no clue what this means, but I know it means something if the butterflies in my stomach are any indication."

For the second standalone book in her Love Hurts Series, Sawyer Bennett proved to us again how a second chance romance can be a sexy, and undeniable love story. We all know how much I enjoy Sawyer Bennett's books, and the ease in which she tells a story, so I don't need to drone on and on about how much I loved it. But I did. Of course! With Eden and Coop fighting such deep emotions while trying to overcome the past, this allows for a fun romp between two characters that have a past they can't escape.

When you fall in love with 'the one', your heart eventually leads you back, no matter your circumstances. That was most definitely true, whether she meant it or not, for Eden. With her escaping the glitz and the glamor of Hollywood after a very embarrassing night, she ended up right back where she came from and unfortunately, that came with the man she left behind in a whirlwind rise to fame. You can call it fate, you can call it chance, you can call it whatever you like....but I totally love to believe in destiny and everything happening for a reason.

Even though this was easily predictable being a second chance romance, we got to wade through their ups and downs with some familiar feelings and circumstances creeping back in and this is where SB shines when she tells a story. The banter between the characters flowed easily, with and without attitude from them both, and the love story took shape almost immediately. It was fun, it was HOT, and it was a smile inducing introduction to these two lovers. I really enjoyed this book.

Man! I'll be completely honest: At first, I really didn't like how mean Coop was to Eden!! I was like, dude! You're a jerk! But as we dove deeper into the story, we started to see that besides being a defense mechanism for his own heart, he was actually a very good, very sexy southern gentleman with a dirty streak in him. He really was a naughty one between those sheets, I can and will admit that!! HA!! With Eden, her heart knew that Coop was hers, but she tried to talk herself out of it originally, and with a huge misunderstanding looming between them, we got to see her backbone, but also her sincerity as she righted all the wrongs. She knew who ultimately had her heart.

In the beginning, the push for them felt a little.....contrived, a little forced? Which is weird because I've always felt that SB's characters have naturally come together with ease. But this one, the way they first fell back into their "norm", it felt a little awkward for me at first. A little. Being quite childish in their fighting, these two had a few run-ins at first but I knew there was a story behind this hurt. Forced or not though, contrived or pushed....this book went from two hurt and irritable individuals to some quick soul searching and a sincere realization that their hearts knew what their stubborn minds didn't want to acknowledge at first and they fell into their groove.

I love SB's writing style and the light angst in this one, not much but slight. I like her sexy alphas and I enjoy the ease in her storytelling. She's always a guaranteed good read for me; one that I know I don't have to worry about being good. It's always a treat to sink into her books and get lost in her writing that never fails to make me smile. This one was no different. I loved this "reward".

"We seized our second chance and were granted the ultimate reward. Love."
