LOGAN
by JAY MCLEAN
As a kid, Logan Preston was a brat.
Through his teens, he became the bad boy.
Now, at nineteen, no one knows what the hell to expect.
High school dropout, Logan Preston is a
good-for-nothing stoner.
A black sheep.
A disappointment.
The worst Preston Punk of the lot.
At least that’s how everyone in his small town
makes him feel.
But Logan Preston has secrets.
Secrets so dark and so deep below the surface that the only way he can fight them is to stay high, high, high.
He wears cockiness as a mask.
Arrogance as his armor.
Until one girl, one night, asks one life-changing question:
What's beneath the bravado, Logan Preston?
"I am conflict. Aubrey kisses me again. And she is hope."
FIRST AND FOREMOST: that cover set me afire when I saw it!! The smirk? That got me! I loved being able to look at it before I read his story....and then seeing his smirk, and reading about it afterwards? Ladies: LEGIT.
I like Jay's writing. It is so quirky, and so addicting. She tells a complete story, but allows you to discover the reality behind the situations. I knew after reading Lucas that I was completely invested in this family, and now I am 100% Jay-Whipped. I seriously love the way she's wound my heart up in this family of boys and has caused me to seek more. Her brand of emotion, her style of storytelling, soooo good. So full. So good.
You guys!! I FELT this draw Aubrey and Logan had towards each other. This pull they couldn't deny and had to act upon. It was a heavy need that reverberated through the entire story. A necessary touch. A required look. Jay did an amazing job leading us through a story and allowing us to feel it, discover it, right along with Logan and Aubrey. <sigh> I am so in love with this couple. NEED. This story was filled with undeniable NEED.

Do you remember falling in love, or having your first crush? Do you remember the butterflies and the questions you had for what you were feeling? I remember that, and watching Logan trying to accept those feelings, all the while trying to get through them muddled with his own hangups was heartbreakingly real. It's because he had more than just the normal feelings to wade through, given his past, and it was so hard to see him fight with himself more than anything else. But the struggle was real and it was sad, but it was what brought Aubrey to him. When people talk about the loves that speak to your heart, the ones that sing directly to your soul? The ones that are made for you? This was Aubrey and Logan's story. I was so caught up in their mutual struggle, their draw to each other, not realizing the heaviness of it. Jay did this story justice. So in love.
Anger mixed with curiosity, real emotions mixed with real fear; exceptional story. When you don't know, but you just know...
"I think I like these moments with you the most."
"What moments?"
"Just this...existing with you. It's good."
WARNING: For all the exciting and angsty emotions we felt, this one took a very dark turn. Wrapped up in a storm of anger and being led by a demon with an agenda, this book was a day in the life of literal death. I cannot imagine the fear and pain that Logan was dealing with. The need to get away from it all and escape what was going on? I felt so bad for him, but I am so angry at what his escape was. I couldn't stop reading it and Jay was leading us down this path of no return with ease. I felt like I was spiraling out of control right next to Logan. It was a very hard trip to read....and the writing was amazing. I was completely caught up in everything that was happening. What a rush!!
Life and love, the struggles are so real. This book was filled solid with two broken souls that were climbing out of the darkness of their pasts with the help of each other. This book showcased that and I loved being able to wade through the murky waters, and fly through the clouds above. The moods were set by her words, but the feelings and emotions were amazing to go through. I cannot wait for the next Preston Boy's story.
"I'm dizzy and deluded and he's passion and perfection."
