Book Review for The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

The Fall Up

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

REVIEW: 5 STARS

"I'm not perfect, and I'd like to pretend you aren't either."

What an amazing love story this was!! WOW!! Aly Martinez nailed another one. Spectacular!! I might be able to string together a few words to show my love for this book, but I'm fairly sure it will come across as babble with a hint of sincerity. This book was really actually very good.

Levee and Sam sure had to make it through some tough times to get to their happy ending, but it was so worth it to take that journey with them. This book, while having a heavy subject matter, showed us responsibly that there is help. There is an upside to a terribly tragic problem in our society. I really enjoyed the play on the title and how it worked into the storyline. This story reminded me of when you first fall in love and can't get enough of each other and the level of need is rather high!! Surrounded by anxiety, depression and suicide, Levee and Sam's story was handled very well and Aly gave it due justice as she maneuvered these often not talked about, but ever present in today's society, very real problem.

Aly has this way of weaving together amazing stories with depth and clarity quite gracefully. She knows how to grab ahold of your emotional heartstrings and TUG!! Her words breathe life onto pages. They paint this picture that grows before your eyes...easy to read and always enjoyable. I am finding myself seeking out her books every time they come up. I am a very definite fan of hers.

This story hit me on all levels.

From a blogger standpoint, it was a beautifully written story that allowed us to explore a serious subject matter, all the while seeing this beautiful couple get their happy ending. And these characters most certainly deserved it. In every way, shape or form that it came in. There were some giggle worthy times in this book that made it lighter -- and Henry is my favorite side character!!! There were some amazingly sincere times that made it extremely sexy and very sensual. And then there were the honest parts made it genuine and heartfelt.

From a personal standpoint, it hit really close to home. You see, I was on the other end of the phone call from my brother telling me goodbye. That was the single most scariest night of my life, ever. Suicide is no joke. It is something that affects more than the person taking their own life. It affects whole families....it affects everyone. Suicide affects many and the boundaries are non existent, no matter what anyone says. Tall, short, rich, poor, black, white, single, married, employed or unemployed. It has no discriminations. But, there are always signs. We may not see them at the time, but they are always there. I implore you, if you are thinking that suicide is your way out, please talk to someone or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1 (800) 273-8255. They are open 24/7/365 and are there for YOU in your time of need.

Peace and Love,
~Bee
