HONOR
by MELISSA ELLEN
There are three reasons that will get you killed by the hands of your own family.
Three rules.
They are simple.
Don't disobey an order.
Don't betray your family.
And don't touch a made man's girl.
For her, I'll break them all.
REVIEW: 3.5 STARS
"Her lips, my lips, had always made perfect sense."
While I've seen Melissa Ellen's name making the rounds on Facebook, I hadn't been able to squeeze her onto my calendar until now. I did have one of her books on my TBR, but the minute I saw Honor, I knew I needed to make time. I'm glad I finally did, because I got to not only introduce a new author to my lineup, but also a new series that I need to follow. New author. New sub-genre. The neat thing is, this was my first mafia book!! Honor was a slow ease into the crime family world. There was a lot more action and suspense with some sweeter elements of a love story that literally beat the odds - and I really enjoyed that aspect. I feel pretty invested in the Leoni family now, so I am definitely rooting for a few more books for some of the characters I met in this one.
"I see. A cocky gentleman."
"Confident. It's only cocky if you can't back it up."
I really liked this book!! It was a super easy read without all the gore and boring details of what that certain kind of life can entail, so I was able to follow along without issue. The story was full of action, but the forbidden aspect was my favorite part. When Mario and Lena were together, you could feel their chemistry. The sparks were evident and the love was sincere. There was just something about Mario, a sort of comfort in knowing he knew exactly what he was doing and that I needn't worry about how he was going to get through any situation. He was always one step ahead of everyone and everything, and that 'confidence' was very sexy. Lena was in tune with him, just as he was with her, but the trust she had with him was very prominent.
"I'm not sure I ever had a chance."
"At what?"
"Not falling in love with you."
<Sigh> I loved the way he talked to her and how true his feelings were. The way he loved her and cherished her, always aware of her feelings and emotions. It just made their love feel that much more authentic. They were so sweet and so determined to be with each other, so when they had those stolen moments, it was pure bliss on the pages. Mario and Lena had a love...worth loving, and one I couldn't help but root for.
Honor was a quick and easy read; a well told story but without a lot of angst or depth. If there is one thing I would mention - but isn't really a complaint, it would be the lack of depth or heaviness that I would have associated with this kind of subject and/or storyline. It's not bad, and I'm most definitely not complaining - I am just trying to pace it in my own mind as well. Overall, it was a light and easy read, which made for a nice vacation read for me. This book will be a huge hit for people that like an action packed, great love story, with a lighter edge to it. I can and will easily recommend this book. This was a great introduction to Melissa Ellen's writing and I am eagerly anticipating the second book in her Made Series, Burden. I will most definitely be following this series.
"I knew what her lips tasted like, knew what it felt like to kiss her. But every time, my heart raced like it was the fucking very first time."

~MEET MELISSA ELLEN~
I'm an indie author that focuses on contemporary romance with a little bit of everything: humor, angst and sometimes suspense. A Reason To Stay, book one of the Blackwood Series, was my debut novel.
I grew up as a book worm, reading anything and everything and still try to read at least a book a week. I've always had an active imagination. Luckily, I now have time to put it to good use into stories that are constantly swarming around in my head.
When I'm not writing, you can find me working on architecture projects, buried in a book with a cup of coffee, playing with my adorable son, laughing with my hot husband, or tackling my latest DIY project (and by that I mean putting my hot husband to work).
