Book Review and Giveaway for Drunk On You by Harper Sloan

DRUNK ON YOU
by HARPER SLOAN

It was supposed to be fun.
A mutual use of each other's bodies.
To be a ruse to the world around us.
I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his.

One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment.
He warned me not to fall for him, and I should've listened.

He intoxicated me.
He made me crave him.
He ruined me.
In the end, I'll never be the same.

REVIEW: 3.5-4 DRUNK STARS
"Why do I make you nervous, chèrie? Is it because you're not used to the type of man I am, or because you aren't used to the way the type of man I am makes you feel?"

I have been invested in the crew from The Corps Security Series since I originally read them and then, of course, I have followed their kids in the spinoff series: the Hope Town Books. I have loved all the stories in these two series, but this was a fun little jaunt outside of that dynamic to the best friends of Nate and Ember. I anxiously awaited this one, and it was such a good story. I needed this book BAD!!

At first, the beginning was a little shaky for me between transitions from conversation to actions/scenes, and I was slightly concerned! While I was only 5% in, it didn't grab me immediately like Harper's books always do. It wasn't reading 'deep' to me and I knew there was some power behind this love story, so that didn't sit well with me. But, I continued on because I love this crew and I knew that Harper could whip up a story that would grab my attention. And then all of the sudden, WOAH!! BAM!! Longest first 9% ever, but I think I needed a cigarette and a drink after that! Holy shite!! To put this nicely, Shane was HOT. He had a mouth on him that didn't quit. Holy cow, he is naughty in all the right ways. He made me squirm. And blush. And smile. And yeah, he was just so <sigh> SEXY. Holy cow. YES.

"A man like me...I would ruin you and have you begging to be ruined all over again once you'd recovered."

With some quick witted comebacks and some giggle-worthy moments, I became thoroughly engrossed in these two. This was a story of love and trust -- and the reality of the necessity of said trust in a relationship. And for someone who cannot stand FAKE relationship storylines, this one was actually done RIGHT. I don't know why, but I generally hate fake relationship storylines because they're never really written to the point of belief for me, but this one was easy once we got into the thick of the story. Throw in some seriously sexy times, mix in some jealous exes and add a dash of signature Harper-Drama, and you have a book that actually kept me quite entertained.

I feel like the actuality of the relationship, the depth of it, was what helped smooth out the book for me. I honestly couldn't get enough of Shane and Nikki together. Shane was a very strong man, but Nikki was one strong woman as well. She had a few hangups, but so did Shane. I actually liked seeing them wade through the waters of insecurity in their relationship. There was an undercurrent of reality to their problems, and I liked seeing it play out. Again, some of it was a little overplayed, but that's Harper's signature.

OMG -  I need to mention this: THE sexiest thing ever was Shane speaking in French to Nikki!! Yes, please. It was such a turn on. The meaning behind it had a great backstory and I loooved it. I was bummed that the translation for his smooth and sexy quotes were AT THE END of the chapter. It made it tedious and hard to find, and by the time I got to it at the end of the chapter, I'd already forgotten the context in which it was used in. It was lost on me at that point so I was seriously bummed out. UNTIL I pulled my head out and realized there was a translation button on my kindle app. I'm ok now. Yes, that was a complete USER ERROR. Super sexy Shane can speak to me in French any day of the week!! I freaking loved it.

"His touch was as intoxicating as a drink to an alcoholic."

I love when a title makes perfect sense to the story you're reading. This title FITS this book! I loved the meaning behind it and I felt the emotion behind it. Overall, a really great book. I really love this little extended family Harper has written and I will forever follow this series. I am completely in love with it and can't wait for more. I am actually quite excited at the setup for the next story that we got to see in this book.

"I trust you. I trust you with all that I am. All I've ever needed."

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of herothe super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
