Book Review: A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

REVIEW: 5 AMAZINGLY ANGSTY DRUNKEN STARS
"I was blinded by lust, high for the first time in years, and his words only pushed me further into the addict state of mind."

You know that feeling when you try a new-to-you author and you FALL IN LOVE?? YES! This is me, screaming from the tops of my lungs about how much I LOVED this book!!! WOW!! I'm sure this one will sit with me for quite some time. I can only liken it to an emotional hangover. Kind of like a book hangover.....only worse, because my heart will still feel heavy and my mind will still wander with what ifs.

I wish I could explain how angsty this book was.
I wish I could explain how many times my heart broke.
I wish I could explain how much this book made me breathe funny.
I wish I could explain how PERFECTLY broken this book made me feel.

If you've been following me for any amount of time, you know that angst is something I most definitely crave and feel, when written well, is the BEST way to enjoy a book. This book had it in spades. I honestly paced with this one. I read some, put it down....had some anxiety pangs, babbled to my husband, picked it up again and read some more. I needed to process what I was reading: Stop. Breathe. Read more. Rinse and repeat. This book captured my soul...I was consumed by it. I am still shaking my head when I think about it as I write this review. Oh man, I mean it. This book....oh my gosh. This book.

This book affected me so much. I want to shake everyone, yelling: READ THIS BOOK!!! This was brilliant storytelling, and it read as if it was told from the very depths of the author's soul. As if it was born from personal heartache; truth mixed with pain, pleasure mixed with heartache. At one point, I literally felt my heart crack in two. The heartache was so good. Weird, I know, but perfect. So perfect.

I had a death grip on my kindle as I read down to the very last sentence of the epilogue. I held on with every breath as I watched these two with an all consuming, mind blowing need for each other navigate through their love. Not lust. Not desire. NEED. The very definition of life sustaining NEED. The type of need sighs are made for....

I loved the way their story was told. We were in the present, but we weren't. We were in the past, but it was current. I loved the way it was told. It was so different and so unique. One thing you have to accept while reading it is hindsight is always 20/20. And those little peeks into her psyche while reading her story were pretty neat. This book. I'm telling you....you need to read it. I feel like I want to hold your hand when you do.

"Even if you must move on, please don't ever let us go."

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

Book Review for Sugar Free by Sawyer Bennett

For years Sela Halstead dreamed of revenge, but the quest for payback has been anything but sweet. Now, once again, she finds herself at the mercy of Jonathon Townsend, his hands crushing the very breath from her body. And even though she escapes with her life, Sela fears she may never recover. In desperate need of shelter and comfort, she runs to the one man she can trust. Beckett North has stood by Sela since the beginning. But can he handle the brutal truth?

Beck will do anything to protect what is his—and make no mistake, Sela belongs to him, heart and soul. The passion between them runs hot, even as their world begins to unravel. With the legacy of his ruthless business partner hanging in the balance, Beck stands to lose everything: his fortune, his family, his freedom. But each touch of Sela’s mouth on his skin, her nails down his back, makes it harder to let her go—and it might not even be his choice to make.

REVIEW: 5 CrAzY Plot Twist Stars
"I don't even bother questioning why you came into my life, or the crappy circumstances we were both handed. It was fucking destiny."

If you have been following along with my reviews at all, you will know that THIS book was torture waiting for. Sugar Daddy set the stage for this epic series, and then Sugar Rush added so much to the storyline that I was literally freaking out at the end! I *needed* Sugar Free so bad!!!

Talk about yelling "PLOT TWIST!!!!!" while in the middle of reading a story!! Sugar Free was supposed to be this explosive conclusion to one wild story, and I will admit it was EPIC. Twist after shocking twist, I was literally on the edge of my seat watching as it all unfolded in front of me. I wasn't technically anticipating any twists that came my way because it was written with such clear and easily followed circumstances and dialogue that I just took it turn by turn, but man!!! Once I thought I had it all figured out and then BAM! She threw in such a mind-blowing twist.

I loved Beck after Sugar Rush....LOVED him. If you recall, I swoogled over Beck in my review for Sugar Rush. You can read my review HERE.  But, to be completely honest with you, his strength and resolve in this book just made me weak in the knees!! He is PERFECT!!!! He protected her, no matter what she said or did, and he stood by her. He is the perfect gentleman and knows the *TRUE* meaning of what love is. So swoonworthy. <sigh> OMG....this book.

I love Sawyer Bennett's legal knowledge, and I love that she was able to build this story around a crime and actually make the actions/reactions and fallout legit to the circumstance. This entire storyline was plausible and real, and the legal side of it intrigued me so much. Her Legal Affairs Series is my all time favorite of her series....so this was an added treat to get more of this type of story from her.
